Decision Making: Don’t be Near Sighted

Personal note: I’m nearsighted and have been for awhile now. People that have nearsighted vision have trouble seeing objects from a distance without a little help. I like to think our consultation at DCRS can give restaurant owners the opportunity to see the bigger picture and hopefully guide them to avoid obstacles further down the road!

In our line of work we are fortunate enough to be able to work with many small business owners who have their own visions of opening the next great concepts in retail and hospitality. I have never opened my own restaurant,  I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years and can only imagine how difficult it must be to put so many different key components in play to make a restaurant/bar operate successfully on a daily basis. Having the right POS system in place will give you a better chance of opening your new endeavors without a hitch, and having the right vendor can assist even further.

Sometimes though, business owners become near-sighted, they lose sight of the long term benefits of investing in a system and a company that will help them succeed. Here are a few points to look for when making your decision on buying the right POS system.

1. Financial stability-This would be the first thing you should look for when making any large purchase. Ask yourself, “Will this company be around in year 5, 10, 15 years?”. There are hundreds, if not thousands of POS systems in the world to choose from; knowing you have purchased a system with a company that will last through that changes that you go through and still be relevant is crucial.

Micros is based in the US and Headquartered in Maryland with distribution channels (like DCRS) all over the world. MICROS is a company that is publicly traded on Nasdaq, and has been an industry leader in the restaurant technology field for over 25 years. Micros is one of the few POS system companies that manufactures its own hardware and software in the US.

DCRS Solutions is also based in the US and Headquartered in Maryland Heights, MO with customers all over the US. We are privately owned and currently on our 3rd generation of family management. DCRS has been in business for over 35 years and continues to strive to exceed it’s customers expectations every day!

2. Support and Service-Let’s not overlook this area. People are generally getting smarter and more tech savvy  but at the end of the day you are trying to run your business not diagnosis a problem with your POS system. Restaurant owners should be able to focus on doing the one thing they love, running their restaurant. On a busy Friday night if something goes wrong (see: Murphy’s Law), having the ability to resolve the issue as quickly as possible can save your business money and headaches.

All DCRS Service Techs complete intensive training classes and achieve certifications for the products they are servicing so they can provide the best service possible. There is no 1-800 number or waiting for 30 minutes on the phone to get someone on the other line; you have a local number to call and a real person within arms reach to help you.

3. Opportunity for growth-With any investment of this kind you want to be reassured that if your needs change down the road or you expand your business to greater heights, then your POS Vendor and the products they supply should change and expand with you. DCRS offers opportunities to expand and grow your original POS system to that which can provide more features and capabilities that suite your changing needs.
