In 2009, Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7. This 10-year period has now ended, and Microsoft has discontinued Windows 7 support on January 14, 2020.
PCI-DSS requires that all PCs within a credit card data environment be regularly updated with security patches. With Windows 7 no longer having support from Microsoft, these patches will no longer be released.
What can I do to remain compliant?
- Consider an EMV solution from DCRS, which allows users to take their existing POS out of PCI scope in most instances and keep your hardware in place. DCRS is currently offering FREE EMV terminals.
- Upgrade your hardware. Replace your Server or back-office PC with a Windows 10 Server and/or new Workstation 3 or 6 with Windows 10 if you are still running CE.NET on your POS terminals.
- Consider a Cloud POS offering from DCRS. Cloud is here to stay! See why many restaurants are moving in this direction: real-time access from any device to your POS system, easy-to-use, Online Ordering, Kiosk, Electronic Gift Card, Loyalty, and affordable Wireless/Handheld functionality.
